How is the Welsh Government using the school curriculum to prepare students for the growing needs of computing and data?
Ensuring our young people have the digital skills to thrive in a fast-moving technological world is a key ambition for the Curriculum for Wales. Digital Competence is a mandatory cross-curricular skill in the Curriculum for Wales, supporting learners to develop their data and information literacy, computational thinking skills, and to stay safe online
To support these ambitions, the Welsh Government provides £300,000 to Technocamps, which develops teachers and learners’ digital knowledge and skills in areas such as coding and computational thinking.
In my July Oral Statement, I announced my plans to strengthen our national expectations for the cross-curricular skills of literacy, numeracy and digital competence. As part of this work, we will consult on a revised and strengthened Digital Competence Framework, ensuring we set high expectations and aspirations for all.
