What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the safety of the Atlas Road-Leckwith Road junction in Canton, in the context of the requirements placed on local authorities by the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales | Answered on 20/09/2024

The Welsh Government has not done any safety assessment of the junction as this is the responsibility of the local authority.

The junction is mapped as part of a short-term future route on Cardiff Council’s Active Travel Network Map. Cardiff Council have plans to improve pedestrian and cyclist facilities at the Leckwith Road/Atlas Road/Wellington Street junction as part of the future Cycleway 5 route, by upgrading the temporary cycleway installed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Concept designs, including traffic modelling, are in progress, with Cardiff Council expecting to release proposals for public feedback within six months.
