What support is the Welsh Government offering to small museums and heritage sites in Pembrokeshire?
In Pembrokeshire there is one Accredited local authority museum, six fully Accredited independent museums, and two working towards Accreditation status. The funding of museums is a matter for their governing body. In the case of those owned by local authorities, it is a matter for the local authority itself and the decisions it takes to allocate its un-hypothecated budget settlement.
Welsh Government acts as the sector development agency for the local museum sector in Wales. Through this development role we offer support to museums who are taking part in the Museum Accreditation Scheme in terms of training, advice via specialist advisers, funding of sector support organisations to undertake projects and programmes of benefit to the sector, and capital grants. For example, Narberth Museum, was awarded £125,565.92 through the Transformation Capital Grant scheme in 2023/24.
In addition, Cadw has funded 16 projects for heritage sites in Pembrokeshire since 2020/21, totalling £428,081.64.
