Will the Welsh Government review the serious shortage protocols in light of increasing drug shortages to reduce the number of patients required to return to their general practitioner for a new prescription?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 05/09/2024

Maintaining the continuity of supply of medicines to the UK is a reserved matter and is the responsibility of the UK Government. Powers regarding the preparation and use of Serious Shortage Protocols (SSPs) are reserved to the UK Government.

Where the UK Government puts an SSP is in place, we ensure Wales is included within their territorial extent.
