Will the Welsh Government respond to recommendations made in the report Recruitment and Retention of Senior School Leaders in Wales, published by the National Academy for Educational Leadership?
The Recruitment and Retention of Senior School Leaders in Wales was commissioned by the National Academy for Educational Leadership with a view to broaden the evidence base and suggest how the challenges in the recruitment and retention of senior school leaders could be addressed. The report provides a series of policy suggestions to be considered by a number of education partners, and specifically local authorities as the employers of senior school leaders. It is not, therefore, for Welsh Government to respond.
A number of the policy suggestions have already been identified in other Welsh Government commissioned reviews in Wales, most recently the review of the middle tier in Wales by Dr Dylan Jones, the Luke Sibieta Review of School Spending in Wales, the Leadership Review by Professor Alma Harris et al and Learning to be a headteacher for Wales by Professor Mick Waters. Other suggestions will be taken forward as part of ongoing work e.g. continuing discussions on workload and well-being of the education workforce.
