What discussions has the Cabinet Secretary had with the UK Government and energy companies regarding an expected increase in energy bills later this year, following the profits made by energy companies during the cost-of-living crisis?

I wrote to the new Secretary of State for Energy, Security and Net Zero in August, before Ofgem’s announcement on the price cap increase. I am keen to work closely with the new UK Government on our shared ambition of tackling poverty to develop a permanent, effective form of protection for households in need.
My officials have also written to energy suppliers asking them to confirm what support they can offer their customers who are struggling to pay their bills.
