What is the Welsh Government doing to improve public transport links to hospitals and other medical settings?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for the Economy, Transport and North Wales | Answered on 27/08/2024

We recognise the importance of providing regular, accessible and affordable public transport links to hospitals and other medical facilities across Wales. Transport for Wales are working with local authorities and bus operators to ensure that bus and rail networks work together to better serve key health care sites as part carefully planned transition to an integrated public transport system with franchised bus network.

In addition to the Bus Grant funding that we provide to local authorities to ensure that hospitals and health care facilities are well served by local bus services, we also fund an extensive TrawsCymru bus network across Wales which provides strategic connections to hospitals.

We are improving rail services across Wales through our £800m investment in brand-new trains and £1bn transformation of the Core Valley Lines. Transport for Wales are already running more frequent and reliable services with more accessible trains that include level boarding, improving ease of use, connectivity and interchange options for passengers accessing health care.
