What further consideration has the Cabinet Secretary given to extending the Welsh Government’s definition of service children to match it to that used by Supporting Service Children in Education Cymru?
Supporting Service Children in Education (SSCE) Cymru is committed to ensuring that their work aligns with the Welsh Government’s definition, as this is directly linked to the funding requirements for 2024–25.
The SSCE Cymru project is managed by the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) on behalf of the Welsh Government. The Welsh Government’s definition of service children eligible for support was included in the terms and conditions of the funding letter, which the WLGA accepted in April 2024.
We will keep this under review to ensure the limited funding available is used to provide the maximum benefit to those most in need in discussion with SSCE and wider stakeholders and as part of our consideration of the 2025-26 budget setting process.
