Will the Cabinet Secretary provide information on a) how many public appointments applications were made by Welsh speakers since 2019 as a percentage of all appointments; and b) how many of those applications by Welsh speakers were successful, as a percentage of all the appointments made?

People currently apply for public appointments using the Cais recruitment system. From 2019 – 2023 the Appoint system was in place and it was not mandatory to provide information on Welsh language skills.

Since 2019, 41.8% of applications for regulated public appointments were made by those who recorded Welsh language skills (as of 22 August 2024). Of those applications, 12.5% were successful. As a percentage of all appointments made, those who recorded Welsh language skills made up 5.2%.
