How is the Welsh Government monitoring the compliance of social care employers with the real living wage policy?
We are moving in to the third financial year of our Programme for Government commitment to pay the real living wage (RLW) to social care workers in Wales.
Monitoring processes were put in place in 2022-23 and 2023-24. Information provided by health boards and local authorities was scrutinised by the Real Living Wage Steering Group, which included representation from government, providers, commissioners, and trade unions.
We have now commissioned an independent evaluation of the implementation of the real living wage, which will look at the implementation and experience of delivery of the commitment across the sector.
