Will the First Minister outline the expected cost of the business tax review?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution and Cabinet Office | Answered on 01/07/2024

Alma Economics has been awarded a contract to undertake a review of non-domestic rates reliefs, following a competitive procurement process. The value of the contract is £84,600 plus VAT, with contingency for further funding of up to £15,000 if any extension is granted due to unforeseen circumstances.

On an annual basis, non-domestic rates contribute £1bn to fund vital local services in Wales and the Welsh Government spends over £250m on permanent reliefs. It is, therefore, important that we undertake this review to help ensure that reliefs are targeted appropriately and genuinely effective.

Further information on the review is available in the written statement published on 20 June: https://www.gov.wales/written-statement-review-non-domestic-rates-reliefs
