What support does the Welsh Government offer to help young adults with autism spectrum disorder to transition from specialist further education colleges to an independent life?

It is the responsibility of Local Authorities to plan and support the transition of all young adults from specialist further education colleges to independent living.

In September 2021 we published the Statutory Code of Practice on the Delivery of Autism Services,  under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014 and the NHS (Wales) Act (2006).  The Code sets out how the needs of autistic people are to be taken into account when accessing health and social care services, including transition.  We are updating the Code to include other neurodivergent conditions, and on 17 June published an on-line consultation survey, there is a section on transition.

The Welsh Government also funds the National Neurodivergence Team to provide publicly available information and resources to support Neurodivergent individuals throughout all stages of life including transition.
