What action is the Welsh Government taking to promote the spiritual wellbeing of learners?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 13/06/2024

Religion, Values and Ethics is mandatory for learners aged 3 to 16 in the Curriculum for Wales.

The RVE Statutory Guidance includes reference to spiritual development and well-being. In the context of RVE, spiritual development is concerned with our natural ability to look for, express and understand what is important in life, and to question who we are and why we are here – and this may or may not involve religion. The guidance also highlights that RVE should give learners opportunities to discuss and reflect on their own perspectives and those of others on a range of issues, to help them to build their mental, emotional and spiritual well-being by developing confidence, resilience and empathy.

We continue to work with our Local Authorities to support the work of their Locally Agreed Syllabuses.
