How many training places for dental foundation training and dental core training are available in Wales each year and what is the uptake for each programme in each health board?
There are 74 Dental Foundation Training (DFT) places, funded by the Welsh Government.
The number of places offered and filled depends on several variable factors:
- Sufficient training places being available. (NHS dental practices apply to HEIW to become training practices).
- National Recruitment (NR) allocations to Wales
- Existing trainees requiring extensions or remedial training.
In the last two years an incentivised local recruitment scheme (Wales Enhanced Recruitment Offer – WERO) has been established to protect training places in rural areas where training was at risk as places were not filled through National Recruitment (NR).
All available places were filled and uptake for each Health Board is shown below.
