What action plan does the Cabinet Secretary have to ensure the flooding between Porth and Treherbert, blocking all rail lines, does not persist when more extreme weather occurs during the winter months?
I regularly meet with the Chair and Chief Executive of Transport for Wales where we discuss a range of issues including extreme weather resilience and response, such as flooding events.
TfW utilise a network of weather stations and have extensive service recovery in place with industry partners to react to incidents on the Core Valley Lines. This enabled a rapid response to the recent flooding between Port and Treherbert, with rail services returning to safe operation in under two hours. Enhanced monitoring and mitigation are now in place for this line, alongside a wider drainage review across the Core Valley Lines.
