What funding has Welsh Government made available for local authorities to tackle fly-tipping?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 29/05/2024

We are providing £1.2 million of funding over a three year period (2022/23 – 2024/25) for the Fly-tipping Action Wales programme, operated by Natural Resources Wales, which provides direct support to Local Authorities and other organisations to tackle fly-tipping.

Fly-tipping Action Wales provide practical support to Local Authorities with officers assisting them with fly-tipping investigations, providing training and guidance as well as toolkits for undertaking fly-tipping awareness raising campaigns in their areas.

During 2022 we increased funding for the programme for an enhanced focus on supporting Local Authorities with fly-tipping enforcement. This has allowed Fly-tipping Action Wales to dedicate two enforcement officers to support Local Authorities and other land managers to target fly-tipping hotspots, they will investigate incidents and help Local Authorities take enforcement action against perpetrators as appropriate.
