How does the Welsh Government gather data for school attendance on a school-by-school basis?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 29/05/2024

For our annual statutory data collection, schools provide electronic data returns to the Welsh Government through a secure data transfer website. This information is checked and verified by the local authority before it is submitted to the Welsh Government.

There is also a non-statutory weekly collection of attendance data which is provided via HwB (the national digital learning platform for Wales). Data is extracted automatically from school systems every week and schools do not need to take any action. This is not verified by local authorities.
