What support is the Welsh Government providing to local authorities and agencies to ensure that people can enjoy open water safely this summer?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 24/05/2024

On 8 May, I announced that we are funding the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to work in partnership with Water Safety Wales (WSW) to further reduce water-related incidents. The Welsh Government has allocated up to £150,000 for 2024/25 to support to the delivery of the Wales Drowning Prevention Strategy.

We are pleased to see progress already made by WSW in meeting the Strategy’s aims and will continue to monitor and remain supportive of its objectives.

This represents a significant step forward in implementing the recommendations set out in the Senedd Petition Committee's August 2022 report on Water Safety and Drowning Prevention.
