What extra support is being given to Amgueddfa Cymru to ensure its museums stay open?

In 2023/24, Amgueddfa Cymru received Grant-in-Aid (GiA) capital maintenance funding of £4,731,000. This has been maintained in 2024/25, despite extremely challenging economic times, and is a significant increase from the £600,000 GiA capital maintenance funding it received in 2015/16.
Amgueddfa Cymru has no plans to close any of its sites. National Museum Cardiff is the urgent priority and we are working with Amgueddfa Cymru to develop a plan to address the maintenance issues there. We are exploring the funding options available to us as a matter of urgency.
