What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the sites in South Wales East contaminated with heavy metals near where people live, following evidence given on 08 May 2024 by Professor Mark Macklin to the House of Common's Welsh Affairs Committee?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 16/05/2024

Under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 it is the responsibility of Local Authorities to identify, assess, and where necessary, remediate contaminated sites within their areas, including those impacted by heavy metal pollution. The Welsh Government has provided funding to assist Local Authorities with this process and continues to support them by funding training for handing of land contamination issues.
