Will the Cabinet Secretary provide details as to how the bespoke rural service will be funded following the Joint Commissioning Committee's decision regarding the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service review?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care | Answered on 13/05/2024

The NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee is responsible for commissioning emergency medical services and, as such, will consider relevant capital and revenue funding requirements as part of development plans for a bespoke road-based enhanced and/or critical care services in rural and remote areas.

To the best of my knowledge, I have not received correspondence from clinicians based in Welshpool nor Caernarfon regarding their views about the decision made by the NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee to consolidate EMRTS Cymru services at a new base. I am aware that the clinical director for the service, Professor David Lockey, supported the recommendations agreed by the Committee.
