Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the Government's National Supply Pool for Wales?
Under the current legislative framework schools in Wales can recruit supply staff directly, via their local authority or via a commercial agency.
We are continuing work on the National Supply Pool for Wales, intended to give supply staff greater choice over how they are employed. The initial booking elements of the system launched within Ynys Mon last November and we are convening a summit later this month with key stakeholders to consider the potential challenges to further rollout and how we collectively move forward.
I can confirm that there are currently 2843 supply staff registered on the National Supply Pool for Wales, 40% of whom are qualified teachers.
