What is the Welsh Government doing to address the amount of food waste in schools?

Local authorities and schools monitor food waste, and many have systems to enable school meals to be pre-ordered either at home in advance by parents or during the morning registration period by pupils themselves. Production waste is often therefore minimised by catering teams only producing the number of meals ordered.
We encourage local authorities to have regard and adhere to the Workplace Recycling Regulations which became law on 6 April 2024.
