What assessment has the Cabinet Secretary made of the importance of private sector investment in the Welsh renewable energy sector?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Welsh Language | Answered on 07/05/2024

We have set ambitious renewable energy targets in Wales and recognise the importance of the renewable energy sector to help achieve those targets.  We support the sector including through our Regional Economic Frameworks, Local and Regional Energy Plans, support to grow supply chains and the workforce as well as through work to explore a sector deal.

On the 17 April I shared information on the detail of a sector deal I will be taking forward to clarify how we will support industry to deliver on our renewable energy targets while setting out how new investment will benefit Wales.  This will mean removing barriers to retaining benefit and value in Wales and to make Wales an even more attractive place for new investment.

Alongside the private sector the public sector will also be leading delivery in Wales. Through Trydan Gwyrdd Cymru we are maximising the opportunities to retain benefits, create green jobs and support our communities as they develop renewable energy projects on Welsh Government estate.
