What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the potential impact of the UK Government's planned reduction in civil service personnel on relevant employees based in Wales?

Answered by First Minister | Answered on 01/05/2024

In the 2023 Autumn Statement, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced plans to reduce the size of the UK Civil Service (excluding Devolved Administrations) to pre-pandemic levels by the end of the next UK Government spending review period.

Welsh Government officials are working with their UK Civil Service counterparts to understand the work, timescales and approach being undertaken by the UK Civil Service to realise the announced reduction. Further information will be known once UK government departments have produced and evaluated workforce plans in support of the next Spending Review cycle.
