Does the Cabinet Secretary plan to introduce legislation requiring compulsory cat microchipping in Wales, and if so, what are the timescales, following the requirement for all pet cats under the age of 20 weeks to be microchipped in England from June 2024?

Our Animal Welfare Plan makes a commitment to consider extending compulsory microchipping to include cats by 2026.

Cat microchipping is already available for all cats. Whilst not compulsory, it is good practice for all responsible owners to get their cats microchipped.
