What assessment has the Cabinet Secretary made of the impact of continuous school assessments on educational inequalities?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Education | Answered on 08/04/2024

The Curriculum for Wales guidance makes clear that schools and settings should embed assessment into their day-to-day practice in a way that engages the learner and makes it indistinguishable from learning. This allows the practitioner to respond to the individual needs of the full range of learners within their classroom, including any specific barriers to learners making the expected progress. This is critical in ensuring schools understand individual learners’ needs and the needs of their community to overcome educational inequalities.;

The Curriculum for Wales Framework is very clear that schools and settings should develop curriculum and assessment arrangements to provide appropriate support and challenge to different learners, supporting aspirations to overcome different gaps in attainment.
