Further to WQ90278, will the Minister provide a full breakdown of all Welsh Government's spending for the range of actions to engage people in decision-making to meet the Net Zero 2050 target including all planned future expenditure?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and Rural Affairs | Answered on 28/03/2024

Our Public Engagement Strategy highlights the importance of engaging people in policy decision-making about how best to tackle climate change. The aim is to build on consultations and engagement already being delivered by the Welsh Government in areas such as energy, transport, food and circular economy policy areas on interventions linked to reducing carbon emissions. At the same time, we want to encourage wider conversations (particularly with marginalised groups) on interlinked topics such as how we tackle climate change in a fair way.

Expenditure on engaging people in climate decision-making was detailed in the response to WQ90278 (covering April 2023 to January 2024) and included:

The proposed breakdown of expenditure in the 2024/25 financial year is as follows, although this may be subject to change:

  • A review on the level and nature of deliberative democracy being undertaken on climate change, including recommendations for future Welsh Government led activity (desk research will be undertaken in-house to minimise spend) - £30,000
  • Wales Climate Week 2024 - £69,785
  • Climate Conversations Community Engagement Fund 2024 - £60,000
