What work is the Welsh Government doing with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Welsh Language | Answered on 03/04/2024

Officials are in regular contact with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) via its Government Relations team, with meetings set at 6-week intervals. Attendees discuss all pertinent issues and information updates, with scope to discuss more urgent issues as required.

Standing agenda items include site-specific updates on Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, socio-economic projects supported by the NDA in Wales and any regulatory and legislative issues. We also have assigned contact points in the event of any extraordinary event requiring more urgent consultation.

Through Cwmni Egino, the Welsh Government’s site development company, constructive meetings have been held with the NDA on all necessary future land-use discussions as well as developing joint understanding of the socio-economic benefits of nuclear developments in Wales.

Officials also liaise with the NDA on supply chain opportunities. This is through the regular Welsh Government-specific meetings, additional NDA event attendances throughout the year and attending the bi-annual NDA supply chain event.
