Will the Minister provide an update on what discussions the Welsh Government is having with local authorities about supporting local-authority run libraries?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Constitution and Cabinet Office | Answered on 09/04/2024

Welsh Government officials are in regular contact with the Heads of Service of Public Libraries.  Written feedback on the performance of individual library services against the Welsh Public Library Standards (WPLS) is provided annually, and officials meet with representatives from local authorities to discuss the feedback as necessary.

Public library services in Wales benefit from Welsh Government support for all-Wales initiatives such as the National Digital Library Service, and the opportunity to apply to the Capital Transformation Fund to develop new services and facilities.
