Will the South Wales Metro project be the only Metro project to be completed in Wales?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport | Answered on 27/03/2024

Our Metro projects in North Wales and Swansea Bay and West Wales will, along with future stages of the South Wales Metro, will underpin the development of Regional Transport Plans in those areas.

The four Corporate Joint Committees in Wales are under a duty to produce Regional Transport Plans that will provide an integrated view of transport priorities in each part of Wales. These plans will align with Llwybr Newydd whilst taking into account the different geography, demographics and existing transport infrastructure that exists in each region. The Regional Transport Plans will also align with and inform the Strategic Development Plans for each region, so transport networks are linked with key development sites and public services.

Further information on Regional Transport Plans can be found in guidance to corporate joint committees published in July 2023: https://www.gov.wales/regional-transport-plans-guidance-corporate-joint-committees
