How is the Welsh Government supporting Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to reduce two-year waits for treatment for people under 18?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 21/03/2024

We continue to hold the NHS accountable to our commitment to prioritise the reduction of long waits for children’s pathway.

Waits over two years for people under 18 years has reduced by 555 pathways (45%) in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board since April 2022 when our planned care recovery plan was issued.

In April 2022 there were 1,227 pathways over two years for people under 18- years across 10 speciality areas.

In December 2023 this has reduced to 672 pathways over two years for people under 18 years, across 8 speciality areas.

These are a few areas of challenge in the health board. My officials are working with the health board management team to ensure specific recovery plans are in place as part of the special measures’ intervention.
