What action has the Minister taken to improve physical education standards in schools across Wales?

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language | Answered on 15/03/2024

Physical health, including physical activity is mandatory within the Curriculum for Wales. The draft 14-16 statutory guidance which is currently open for consultation continues an expectation for regular physical activity up to 16.

There are a range of resources and initiatives to support learning. Sport Wales host a resource, Citbag, which aims to support schools to implement physical activity as part of the Curriculum for Wales, further developing learners skills, knowledge and understanding that physical health and wellbeing has lifelong benefits.

Public Health Wales are also supporting schools to design and develop their curriculum through the development of a toolkit to provide access to high quality, credible information about different topics to support classroom delivery.
