What support does the Welsh Government offer to parents of students whose first language is not English or Welsh?

The Welsh Government provides annual funding of £11m via the equity strand of the Local Authority Education Grant (LAEG) to support learners from ethnic minority communities facing barriers to education. This includes supporting learners and families who are multilingual and do not speak English or Welsh at home.

In addition, we are investing £6.5m in increasing the number of family engagement officers employed by schools, who develop relationships with families to ensure they can signpost to relevant advice and support services. We are also continuing to fund a trial of Community Focused Schools Managers, who work on developing better engagement between schools and their communities.
