What action is the Minister taking to reduce vandalism to road signs across Wales?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 15/03/2024

It is illegal to vandalise or remove road signs and any incidents should be report to the Police who are responsible for enforcement. Not only is this an illegal act, it has the potential to contribute to collisions and the impacts of them on individuals and emergency services, to waste scarce public resources, and to misinform motorists and other road users.

We are continuing to work with and assist local authorities, who are responsible for the signage on their highway network, following the introduction of the default 20mph limit.

On the motorway and trunk road network that Welsh Government is responsible for, inspection of traffic signs falls within our trunk road and maintenance manual. Any graffiti which is deemed to be offensive or obscuring a regulatory/warning traffic sign is promptly addressed within 24hrs of being identified.
