What discussions has the Minister had with the Chancellor regarding the UK Government's purchase of the Wyfla site?
The UK Government did not contact the Welsh Government in advance of announcing publicly that the Wylfa site is to be purchased from Hitachi.
We continue to make the urgent case for clarity on the UK Government’s agenda for the site on important considerations such as the appointment of a developer, proposed technology type(s) and a timetable for any project. Without involvement in the development of these considerations it is difficult for Welsh Government to plan appropriate interventions with respect to supply chain development and support for skills.
My officials, nevertheless, hold regular discussions with counterparts within UK Government about the Wylfa site. Both parties agree that a new Wylfa project has significant transformational potential with respect to socio-economic benefits for Ynys Môn and wider afield across North Wales.
