The Museum Spotlight Survey reported that in 2022 visits to Welsh museums totalled 3,011,763.

Museum development support in Wales is provided directly by the Welsh Government. In this role, Culture Division undertakes and/or funds initiatives, interventions and projects to improve standards, services and visitor experience.

Our grant in aid funding to Amgueddfa Cymru ensures delivery of its visitor and educations programmes, which attract millions of visitors. We are also providing financial support to Amgueddfa Cymru to redevelop the National Slate Museum, Llanberis..

Cultural Transformation Capital Programme provides funding for museums to transform service delivery, modernise their facilities and improve their offer to people and communities.

Under the Programme for Government and Co-operation Agreement, we are creating a dispersed model for the National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales, investing in nine local galleries and museums cross Wales improving access to contemporary art and the national collection for communities and visitors.

Additionally, Visit Wales colleagues work closely with Culture Division officials to ensure museums are integral to the ‘Wales offer’ and represented on the Visit Wales website, social media and within campaign activity.
