Will the Minister provide an update on what Welsh Government support is available for freelance artists?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism | Answered on 05/03/2024

Welsh Government funding and support for the Arts is directed through the Arts Council of Wales (ACW) who operate at arm’s length from Government.

Through both Welsh Government and National Lottery funding, ACW provides opportunities and support for freelance artists directly across a range of schemes. This includes its Create scheme, as well as international collaborations; support to work within their communities through the medium of Welsh; fellowships working in Climate Justice, the Power up scheme for Black music creators, and opportunities to work in schools through Creative Learning through the Arts.

The organisations that receive multiyear revenue funding from ACW also create many paid work and development opportunities for freelance artists in Wales.
