What consideration has the Minister given to findings from the North Wales Transport Commission report that electric vehicles have an ongoing role to play in tackling climate change whilst providing an essential mode of transport for the community?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 05/03/2024

We support the findings of the North Wales Transport Commission which highlights the important role of electric vehicles particularly in rural and remote areas.

We are pleased to see that following intensive focus by local authorities and the private sector, Wales compares well with most areas of the UK in terms of charge points per head of population with 9% growth in the last three months of 2023.

Transport for Wales is addressing the need to incentivise rural charging by working with local authorities to focus public funding on any areas at risk of being left behind, complementing rather than competing with private investment. New commercial models, partnership working and innovative on-street charging technologies are being trialled by many local authorities.
