What specific steps and engagements is the Welsh Government taking to collaborate with the UK Government to facilitate the electrification of the north Wales line?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 06/03/2024

The North Wales Main Line is a reserved matter for the UK Government and we were not consulted ahead of the surprise announcement. I have written to the Secretary of State for Transport to seek clarity on the plans and funding given there is no outline business case. My officials have discussed the matter at the Wales Rail Board and Transport for Wales have engaged in early stakeholder discussions to offer their expertise. The Welsh Government will fully participate in the design and delivery of a scheme which works for the people of North Wales and we will continue to seek assurance that the funding promised will be forthcoming and sufficient to deliver the promises made.
