What assessment has the Minister made of data provided by the Education Policy Institute which shows that, in the last 15 years there were only four years in which there were a good number of acceptable candidates for senior leadership roles in middle and secondary schools in Wales?
We are currently revising the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) following an independent review of the programme and a wider review of school leadership. The data provided in the report along with the two published reviews will feed into our continued development of professional learning and support for our future senior leaders. Headteacher succession planning is a matter for local authorities and governing bodies. However, we will continue to work with them and other partners to ensure a sustainable pool of future leaders.
