What discussions has the Minister had with the UK Government since 2023 on banning conversion practices in Wales?
I wrote a letter to the UK Government, to Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch MP and to Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP, on 13 April 2023, regarding the Government’s proposals to ban conversion practices.
In my letter, noted that Welsh Ministers were yet to receive any detail regarding this draft Bill and that this legislation would apply to Wales. In addition to details on the content of the draft bill, I requested further information on the proposed timetable for its publication and how pre-legislative scrutiny will be completed within this parliamentary session. I asked for clarity on the contribution of Welsh representatives in the scrutiny of this Bill and asked to how to ensure a range of voices from Wales were involved in the bill. I also invited the UK Minister to meet with me to discuss the detail of the UK Government’s proposals.
Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP, Minister for Equalities, responded in June 2023, accepting the invite to meet, and offering a meeting in September 2023. Since then, the meeting has been postponed by the office of Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP, and an alternative date has not been offered yet.
