Will the Minister make a statement on the bullying allegations against the new interim chief fire officer of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and the process that will now follow?
The Commissioners have appointed a Chief Fire Officer on an interim basis, to maintain strategic leadership of the Service and operational response cover continuity. A permanent Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive Officer post will be advertised and appointed as soon as possible. It is within the Terms of Reference of the Commissioners to establish and oversee a senior management team and related processes.
They face a major task in overseeing a recovery from the failures that have been highlighted within the service. The commissioners must be allowed to do their job and be supported in the work we have asked them to do.
