How is the Welsh Government supporting people who have been wrongly removed from a waiting list in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 20/02/2024

Management of patients on waiting lists is the responsibility of the NHS. Welsh Government set the policy and provide national guidance to ensure consistency of approach across Wales.

We expect the NHS to manage patient pathways within the stated national rules and to regularly audit and validate their waiting lists to ensure compliance against the rules.

Where a patient has been removed from the waiting list for a reason other than treatment, the health board is expected to review and investigate any complaints in relation to the management of that pathway in line with the established complaints procedure.
