Has the Minister had any discussions with the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner regarding tax payers in the South Wales Police area facing an increase of over 8 per cent in the police precept for 2024/2025?
The level of the police precept is a matter for the relevant police and crime commissioner. The Policing Partnership Board for Wales received an update on financial matters, including the police precept, at its meeting on 18 December 2023. This noted the challenging financial context including the very limited increase in the overall level of police funding set by the Home Office. I chaired this meeting of the Board, which was attended by Welsh Police and Crime Commissioners as well as other senior criminal justice stakeholders.
