What assessment has Welsh Government made of providers switching off 3G earlier than expected?

Answered by Minister for Economy | Answered on 13/02/2024

The sunsetting of 3G is being led by the mobile telecommunications industry. The four mobile network operators have set out when they will turn off their 3G mobile networks and this information is available on the Ofcom website. Networks must give customers up to 12 months' notice before the 3G switch-off.

Telecommunications policy is not devolved to Wales and rests with the UK Government alongside the telecommunications regulator Ofcom. Welsh Government officials attend a cross-Whitehall group on the sunsetting of 3G to ensure that the interests of Wales are represented.
