What support does Welsh Government provide to victims of domestic violence and abuse?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip | Answered on 14/02/2024

We fund regions and specialist services to provide crucial and lifesaving support to all victims of Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (VAWADSV). This includes early intervention, preventative and educational support, perpetrator intervention programmes, and Independent Domestic Violence Advocates for high-risk victims, as well as therapeutic recovery interventions for the ongoing support of those impacted by VAWDASV. This funding ensures that no matter where a victim lives in Wales, there are strong public and specialist services ready to help.

The total VAWDASV indicative budget for 2024-2025 is £8.005 million revenue and £2.2m capital. This includes funding to statutory and voluntary organisations.

I am proud to have been able to protect this vital funding despite the challenging financial climate.

It should also be noted that further funding for VAWDASV services also comes from other Welsh Government budgets such as Health, Housing and Education.
