Will the Minister review the policy in Wales that entirely prohibits poultry gatherings and movement so as to minimize the impact on agricultural shows, given the lifting of the avian influenza prevention zone in Wales on 4 July 2023, and the existence of a general licence for poultry gatherings in England?
In light of the improving outlook for avian influenza and the recently published revised risk assessment, we are amending our general licence to allow gatherings, including fairs, shows and sales of Galliforme birds in Wales. Gatherings of Anseriforme birds will remain prohibited until further notice.
We plan to publish the revised general licence by 1 March. We will ensure bird keepers in Wales are notified of the outcome of this process.
