What discussions has the Welsh Government had with Traffic Wales in relation to part of the M4 being closed for 13 hours after a fatal three-car crash on 29 January 2023?

My thoughts at this sad time are with the bereaved family following the accident on 29 January 2024.

The Welsh Government and our agents are working closely with key partners including the Police and Traffic Wales to provide assistance, as we do for all incidents that occur on the strategic road network.

As soon as the incident occurred, various organisations including Traffic Wales published information about it on their social media channels.

Regular updates were sent from the site of the incident to the Traffic Management Centre and via social media to provide up to date information during the full closure and to advise road users to avoid the area/find an alternative route.

As with all major incidents we will seek to identify any lessons learned for future incident response and the management of the strategic road network.
