Will the Minister provide an update on the impact on Mid and North Wales of the proposals released following the meeting of the Emergency Ambulance Services Committee on 30 January 2024, with options that would see both Welshpool and Caernarfon air ambulance bases close?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 13/02/2024

A comprehensive engagement process, led by the Chief Ambulance Services Commissioner, coordinated a significant amount of public feedback which alongside data modelling has informed the identification of six options.

These options were considered by a workshop of health board clinicians and medics, who identified two preferred options which were presented to the EASC meeting of 30 January 2024.

Agreement was reached at the EASC meeting of 30 January for a final third phase of engagement on the options before a recommendation can be made to the next meeting of the committee in March 2024 for a decision.

No decision has been made and I have written to Chairs of all health boards asking them to encourage their local populations to feedback and help shape the final recommendation to EASC. It would be inappropriate to comment on impact of any options at this stage.
